"Everything is created from moment to moment, always new. Like
fireworks, this universe is a celebration and you are the spectator
contemplating the eternal Fourth of July of your absolute splendor."

Rachel
15-year-old Rachel is very involved in percussion including school band, pep band, percussion ensemble and the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies (GTCYS). She loves to write. She's part of TVbyGIRLS because "filming is a blast, I've made lots of new friends, and I'd like to change the media's current portrayal of women." She's also very interested in politics, mainly changing them.

And here's one of my politicalish poems that i wrote last summer.

Title: Every New Thing

It seems as though
Every new thing has already happened.
It seems as though
The pure infants have already been weaned
And there is hardly anything left for us to do.

It seems as though the stories, plays, song have all been written;
The discoveries have been made.
It seems as though the diseases have been cured;
The problems have been solved.
It seems as though
Time     has     slowed.

It seems as though the creation period is over
And now we live in the era of revisions
For though the car was made over a hundred years ago,
The thing that worked once is no longer good enough for us.
It seems as though the song that was writ so far before our time
Must be changed to suit our time.

It seems as though the world, once so new that people could not help but fill it

with stories
Is a world in which people go about every day without ever asking
Why does the sun rise?
Who are you?
And
Where does the world come from?

It seems as though we have got ourselves into this rut;
This day when guns, battlefields, cancer, tornados
Sit at our kitchen table
And converse calmly with us over cereal.
